- Week 6 — Art Activity — Intermedia

To be honest, I was not sure about what way I should approach a project like this.
I considered painting, color pencil, or digital art and decided on choosing the media I am the least skilled in. Digital Art has been a medium I have always wanted to sharpen my skills in but quickly become discouraged due to its time-consuming nature. Art is something that cannot be rushed of course but felt as if the piece I made would not reflect the amount of time spent on it. To achieve the best outcome, I used a “Surface Pen” which is essentially a Microsoft version of an “Apple Pencil”. Autodesk Sketchbook is the app I used to create my piece since it also offers a variety of tools and features to create pretty much any piece of art.
The result came out to…

When I went into this project, I was certain there needed to be some sense of serene, calm, and just relaxing auras when you look at it. If it was not apparent, Clouds and an ombre sky are my “vision” of serene if it were a noun. I chose a purple-pink pallet since they are somewhat warm but also pleasant colors (cotton candy if you will). The full moon turned into a crescent and was moved to the center, it even has a slight glow. The clouds were done completely from scratch and involved hundreds of swipes and took about 2 hours to get right. The character in the draft was completely removed since the piece would’ve felt more like an amusement park welcome than a sky. The stars were the last detail and show constellations such as Aries, Cancer, and The Big Dipper.
For my first (somewhat) serious artwork using a program I’m not used to, this came out good. Painting this would’ve been too complicated and colored pencils would not offer the softness which clouds posses. Overall, I am satisfied with this piece but know I will only get better at digital art as I use it. Hopefully, it conveys the themes of calmness and serenity when you take a glance. This was a nice challenge.
